Whether you'll be at a party, a bar or in a more low-key setting, we have 22 New Years cocktails to make it special.

What makes a cocktail great for New Years is hard to define, and subjective. Many New Years cocktails feature champagne, the traditional drink to the new year, but we’ve ventured beyond that limit for some exciting alternatives. We also aimed for cocktails that are easy to make, yet terribly impressive so you can wow your guests without spending the whole party behind the bar.

New Years cocktails

First, you might want to check out our collection of champagne cocktails. You can’t go wrong with those! But if you’re looking for something a little bit different for your New Year’s cocktails, grab your hats and noisemakers, and read on.

  1. Gin Flourish – a delicious red drink with blackberry currant soda, gin and Patron Citronge. It’s fruity with just a little tartness.

  2. Avartini – one of our prettiest blue cocktails, the Avartini features blueberry Stoli, blue Curacao and Sprite for bubbles. A beautiful, festive drink.

  3. Crimson Cocktail – this lovely red drink is a simple combination of gin, grenadine and lemon or lime juice.
The Crimson Cocktail is unusually sweet for a gin-based cocktail. This recipe features gin and either lemon or lime juice, but adds to those a combined ounce of grenadine and port.
  4. Berry Fusion Martini – if you love Hpnotiq, the Berry Fusion Martini blends it with currant flavored vodka, creme de cassis and cranberry juice.
The delicious, fruity Berry Fusion Martini drink recipe blends the tastes of blackcurrant and cranberry with the tropical fruit flavors of Hpnotiq liqueur. It's tart and sweet, with a taste that's endlessly fascinating.
  5. Jack’s Grand Ball – Jack Daniel’s Honey meets Tia Maria, Grand Marnier, and Aztec chocolate bitters.

  6. The C&T Cocktail – there’s nothing better cranberry and gin, unless it’s cranberry and gin with Absolut Mandarin and lime juice.
The C&T Cocktail was created by one of our readers, Michael Julian, along with with a friend. It's based on the Cranberry Gin, but to that delicious combination, it adds flavors of orange and lime.
  7. Royal Clover Club Cocktail – very traditional, all citrus and berry with that slight creaminess that comes from an egg yolk (or teaspoon of egg substitute if you prefer).
The Royal Clover Club Cocktail has a flavor that's all citrus and berry, but with a creamy, silky texture. That's because it uses an egg yolk, which adds very little flavor, but some definite body.
  8. Strawberry Sombrero – Kahlua, strawberry syrup and milk. It’s kind of like chocolate strawberry coffee with a kick.
The Strawberry Sombrero cocktail blends the flavors of coffee, milk and strawberry. The richness of the milk - and I do recommend using whole milk - dilutes the sweetness of the liqueur and fruit syrup.
  9. The Misty Mint – green symbolizes wealth and good health, and this green cocktail features creme de menthe and rum over ice.

  10. The B-52 – three delicious liqueurs beautifully layered and tasting like caramel candy. Perfect for tossing back when the countdown’s done.

  11. Absinthe Suissesse – the mysterious, fascinating flavor of absinthe is perfect for a more introspective start to the new year.
The Absinthe Suissesse features Deva absinthe, anisette, orange flower water, crème de menthe and egg white, and it's like nothing you've ever tasted before. This fascinating classic cocktail is a must try.
  12. Peking – another fascinating choice, this cocktail is hard to pin down because Pernod, rum and grenadine are… well, you can imagine.
The Peking Cocktail is a rum based drink with a hint of anise flavor. That's the Pernod, a liqueur flavored with Chinese star anise. With grenadine lemon juice, it becomes a very refreshing cocktail.
  13. The Deauville Cocktail – impress your friends with your knowledge of this Art Deco era cocktail. Mostly brandy and applejack – highly addictive!
The Deauville Cocktail is an applejack or Calvados drink that dates back to 1930 and originated in New Orleans. It's very simple to make, and works well for a pitcher of pre-mixed drinks at a party.
  14. New York Cocktail – whiskey, lime, sugar and grenadine. There’s something fortifying about this drink – something that just makes you feel good.

  15. Romance – a chocolate-coffee liqueur bonanza served in a martini glass. Ideal for a more intimate New Year’s celebration.
Romance Cocktail Recipe: Kahlua, Carolan's Irish Cream, Creme de Cacao, Cream
  16. The Stinger – brandy meets creme de menthe. This is one of those drinks you can’t describe to anyone else.
The Stinger cocktail dates back to the early 1900s. With creme de menthe and brandy, it sounds very old-fashioned and high society. But it's perfect for after dinner sipping on a chilly autumn evening.
  17. The Martini – it’s a classic for a reason. Not every drinker’s palate can handle gin, but for those who can, this is a great choice.
Martini Classic Recipe - gin and just a touch of vermouth
  18. Blue Skies – a gorgeous blue cocktail featuring fizzy lemonade, blue curacao and cointreau. Pour it in order, and you get a somewhat layered effect with no effort, and it’s really stunning.

  20. Peach Fizz – peach schnapps, vodka and lemon juice with soda water. Simple, delicious and fizzy.
